Making your own BONFIRE

This is where we start

Create a large/safe fire pit to make your BONFIRE. First make sure you are far enough away from any dead trees, buildings, houses or your camping equipment. Then use large rocks/stones to make a fire ring at least 1.5 to 2 meter's in diameter, and dig the pit down about 15 to 20 cm's.


Step 2

Lay two large logs next to each other in the middle of the pit, leaving about 30 cm of space between them. Use logs that are completely dead and dried out.

Step 3

Place a large pile of (leaves, bark or lots of balled-up newspaper) in between the two logs. This will act as your fire starter, so make sure you have enough to create a large flame that will light the Built tepee above.

Step 4

Gather a bundle of thin dry sticks about the thickness of pencils and place it on top of the leaves/paper leaning at an angle against one of the logs. Then lean two more bundles of sticks across the first bundle, but make sure to leave enough room for the fire to breath and for you to reach an arm in to light the leaves/paper.

Step 5

Lay two more logs on top of the pile perpendicular to the original logs. Fill the gap in between the new logs with larger pieces of dried wood, and repeat this process until you have a stack of wood about knee high.

Step 6

Surround your stack of wood with long pieces of vertically leaning dried fairly thick branches. Then make a tepee with three or four long logs around the structure, and surround it with even longer pieces of thick dried logs. Make sure to leave yourself a small opening in order to light your newly built BONFIRE.

Step 7

Reach in and light the leave/paper, making sure not to destroy the tepee. Lightly blow on the ignition to fuel the flame if it doesn't catch at first. Within 5 minutes you'll be grilling marshmallows and enjoying your very own BONFIRE.
